TORONTO - April 24, 2009 - The Canadian Marketing Association welcomes anti-spam legislation that was introduced in the House of Commons today.
"This is important news for legitimate marketers and good news for consumers,” noted CMA’s President and CEO John Gustavson. “Through rigorous enforcement and the backing of the federal government, we will now have a law that will help combat what has been an ongoing problem for legitimate companies that use the Internet to grow their business."
The Canadian Marketing Association was an early pioneer in the self-regulation of Internet marketing, having passed amendments to its Code of Ethics in 1997 that require CMA Members to have the consent of consumers before sending unsolicited commercial email.
